We will also touch on different learning styles and how to incorporate them into your social studies lessons in order to best reach every student.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE HUMANITIES IN A STEM WORLD

Since the Renaissance and the rise of Humanism, STEM subjects have come to the forefront in our culture, while the Humanities (Literature, History, Philosophy and Art) have been relegated to a back seat. We will discuss why this has happened and explain why it is so important that these subjects be included in our children’s education for the sake of our society.

BIO:

Rowan would describe herself as an unconventional educator. She has a passion for education, especially Christian education.  She is the creator of the Headphone History Canadian history curriculum, as well as Canadian history and geography courses for high school.

She is currently working on a Social Studies textbook series designed for Canadian Christian schools and is studying for her Master of Christian Education degree at Redeemer. When she is not teaching or writing, Rowan likes to garden and spend time with her baby grandson.

Rowan has sat two terms on the board of a local private high school. She has owned many businesses over the years as well, but Canadian-A Educational Resources is her favourite.
