Regional Director’s Desk:
Help
Haiti Rebuild Schools
I just spoke (Monday, Jan. 18/10) to
a rep of the Canadian government relief organization CIDA about the
matching grants programme for recovery work in Haiti. She confirmed that we
are a grant eligible agency. That does not guarantee we will receive a grant
however. We will need to submit a proposal to CIDA along with some
documentation about donations received for the project. Then they will
decide whether or not we will receive a grant.
Our project will be to rebuild
Christian schools in Port au Prince and so donations should specify,
“ACSI Haiti School Reconstruction”. The details of the
project will be worked out as the specific needs become apparent. I know
there will be teams from our Canadian member schools (parents, teachers, high
school students, sponsoring church members) who will want to go to Port au
Prince to do or direct some of the labour. They would pay for their own
transportation etc (through their tax deductible donations). Other donated
funds would pay for building materials and equipment. If your school would
like to participate please let me know. In order to be eligible for the grant donations be must be received
by Feb 12, 2010.
If you would
like to contribute to our reconstruction work in Haiti please make a cheque
out to:
“ACSI
Haiti Reconstruction”

ACSI is incorporated as
The Confederation of Canadian Christian Schools
and is a Canadian registered charity.
One of the most frustrating things about getting
things done in Haiti is the slow rate at which any project progresses.
There are problems of logistics and infrastructure there that we just
don’t have in North America. Our project will probably not be
‘on the ground in Haiti’ for well over a month. Nevertheless it
will happen and it will have an important effect. The degree of its
effectiveness will depend upon the amount of support we receive.

person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16
