We are delighted to
announce that on January 1st,
2013 Solect Jean Baptiste became the first Director of
ACSI Haiti. Solect was born in 1974 at La Salle, Haiti
and attended a Christian school there. He became
he was 11. Solect earned a degree in theology from
Séminaire de Théologie Evangelique de Port-au-Prince and
his Masters of Education from Laurel University as well
receiving his qualifications in school administration
from Quisqueya University. After university he became
the superintendent of 10 schools associated with Baptist
Haiti Mission and served so well that BHM put him in
charge of all their elementary and high schools (over
300 of them).
is married to Vivian and they have 2 daughters.
ACSI Eastern Canada
is pleased to
support the ministry
of Solect and his ACSI Haiti office.
ACSI EC has been working in Haiti for
over 25 years.
· Teams from Eastern Canada
provide teacher/director training.
· Canadian member school
students prepare and send several thousand student
packs to Haitian students.
This includes basic Bible courses whereby Haitian
students can earn their own Bibles by completing the
courses. The fact is
that most Haitian Christian school students and their
parents don't own Bibles.
· The ACSI Eastern Canada office has sent
Haitian schools hundreds of boxes of French language
library books donated (for the most part) by French
Catholic public schools in Ontario. This is important because a typical Haitian school
with 300 to 500 students will only have 10 or 12 books
in their entire school Library.
ACSI Eastern Canada brings key Haitian
Christian school leaders to the Toronto Teachers'
· In partnership with Indiana Weslyan
University, a globally recognized
MA programme in Christian School Administration has been
developed and made available to
Haitian leaders. The first cohort graduated in the fall
of 2009 and the Haitian Ministry of Education hired some
of them even before they completed their courses. Many
graduates have continued their studies at post-graduate
levels and are involved in all sorts of educational
pursuits throughout Haiti.
